Bent rudder

Recommended Posts

I hit something this weekend and bent the rudder.  I'm having a hard time tracking down a replacement.  The rudder has "Sunscape 25" stamped on it.  This is on a 2020 25 LSV.  Any guidance is appreciated!

You may be able to remove the rudder and straighten it on a press stand.  If the rudder bent, also check the strut and shaft carefully to make sure they aren't bent as well.

assuming you’re referring to the driveshaft? So I would you say step 1 is to pull it off and see if a shop can straighten before buying a new one?

If you wind up needing a new one - this one might be it

The rudder you are looking for should be pn 3411018.2 from Malibu.  Malibu shows them in stock, so any dealer should be able to order you one.  Tommy's of Detroit in Waterford may have some on the shelf, give them a call (248) 674-8800.

That would be my Step 1, but a lot of folks just replace them without trying to straighten them.  You can visually inspect the strut, and if it is good you can use a stiff wire as a feeler to check the shaft.
