service alarm 02 2/2 SPN 3266 FMI:5

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2016 malibu wakesetter 23 LSV. Boat will run fine for about 90 minutes then start getting yhe following alarm codes:

O2 1/2 SPN 3227 FMI: 5 current below normal or open circuit and

O2 2/2 SPN 3266 FMI 5

New to malibu boats. Any troubleshooting ideas. Sounds like it could be bad sensors?

Those codes could be caused by faulty O2 sensors.  If the sensors have excessive moisture on them it is recommend to pressure check the manifolds for cracks or leaks, to check the exhaust manifold gasket and v-band clamp, and to check the exhaust pipe alignment.  Indmar also recommends checking the catalyst bricks in the exhaust pipes for damage.

Indmar service procedure bulletin SP2018-1 explains it.

Thanks for the info. We bought the boat about 2 weeks ago and the previous owner replaced the manifold last summer (at malibu dealer) as it was cracked. Now we are getting these warnings so hoping it is not related to a problem we thought was fixed.

Just got a 16 as well and was having o2 sensors firing. After driving it around this weekend (had been sitting for ~9 months no usage) the sensors aren’t yelling at us anymore. Side note - not sure where to post this, but is a clicking noise coming from the engine normal?

Spn 3227 is DTC 0154 o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 2 before cat

Spn 3267 is DTC 160 o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 4 after cat.

bank 2 should be port side if it’s vdrive

How do you know if the sensor associated with this error SPN 3266 FM: 5 is post or pre catalytic? I am trying to order a new O2 sensor.

Fault codes with SPN 3266 refer to the bank 2 post catalyst O2 sensor in the exhaust pipe elbow.  Bank 2 on the Ford Raptor 6.2 is the side with cylinders 5,6,7,8 which would be on the starboard side in v-drive boats like the 2016-2018 Malibu Wakesetter.  The Indmar part number is 596100.

we switched this sensor from starboard to port side yesterday the the 3266 warning stopped and then we got SPN 3256 error which makes me think the sensor is bad. But that warning said 02 1/2 sensor. These are driving me crazy but thank you for your help!

SPN 3256 refers to the post catalyst bank 1 O2 sensor in the port side exhaust pipe elbow.  If the code changed when the sensors were swapped then It is extremely likely that the sensor is faulty.  Unfortunately, there could possibly be a moisture problem in the bank 2 exhaust that may cause premature sensor failure.  The bulletin I referenced before goes over what to check.  Your Malibu or Indmar dealer should be familiar with it.

It is important to only use the SPN FMI code numbers to reference the fault in the service manual.  The fault descriptions on the alarms page display are not always accurate and may lead to an incorrect diagnosis.  Indmar even has a service advisory telling technicians to use Diacom and the service manual for fault code diagnosis, not the boat display.

We are struggling to get our boat in due to long service waits so we were hoping to order a new sensor for now until we can get it in. We are going to try to order the sensor based on the part number you provided and cross our fingers. The port side manifold was replaced last year so we really hope we are not having a starboard issue now, of course when our warranty is out. CSLEAVER your awesome! thanks for answer all my questions.
