2016 Malibu 23LSV 410 fuel filter location?

Recommended Posts

Please help.

I bought a used 2016 23LSV with 406 hours, 6.2L 410.  I’m not sure of the maintenance history, so I’m changing out all the normal stuff.

WHERE IS A FUEL FILTER in this boat? I can’t seem to find it in any service manual or forum searches.

Thanks, House324

its in the pump on the tank iirc. pretty sure you don't need to service them either.  there is a bike hose connection on the fuel delivery rack on top of the engine manifold (follow the fuel line from your tank to the top of the motor).  When you key up the boat you will hear the pump kick on and it will be around 60 psi measurable on that bike pump nipple.  be careful it will spray a bit of gas so have a rag handy.

yep cleaver is correct there is a fuel filter attached after the pump on the steel line near the transmission.  your Indmar manual recommends to change it at 300 hours too.

Looks like at 300 hours you should be thinking all new fluids, and likely new spark plugs too.  Reminds me I am probably due for new plugs on mine too.  Cheers and great boat choice.  23lsv is one of the best wake/surf boats on the water!

There is an inline fuel filter that threads into the steel fuel lines that is mounted to a bracket near the transmission.  It is extremely difficult to see and even harder to replace.  Indmar pn 556003 FILTER FUEL EFI.

Thank you guys, for the great replies and links. I looked through the service manual and I still can’t find it.  Thanks for adding the part number.  I’ll order everything this week.

I had a bad ECM in my 2014 boat last summer and troubleshot everything I could regarding the fuel system in the 10 days waiting to take my boat into service at the dealer.  I never found a inline fuel filter either.  I remember seeing in some threads that there was non-serviceable filter/screens in the tank's pump at that time but I admit that I might have overlooked a hidden in line filter.  It is definitely mentioned in the Indmar manual so it must be there.  I will head over to my boat and check it out in the next couple of days.

I found the filter, but WTF?   It's ridiculously buried in the engine with ZERO access to service.  I'm a good wrencher and a maintenance guy, but that is just ridiculous!  Hey Indmar/Malibu...How hard is it to put a remote spin-on filter in an accessible location?

Thanks for the help everyone

if they made it easy then we wouldn't pay $175/hour to have the dealer do it ;).  All joking aside, its probably not a big deal to let it be.  if your fuel pressure is good then that filter is likely just fine.

The new Malibu M5/M6 engines do have an easily accessible filter element with a spin off housing.  Of course, there is a special spanner tool used to remove the housing and there is a spring on top of the filter you have to be careful not to let loose on those engines.

I have to agree with PNWoke that if you are not having a fuel pressure issue, just leave it alone.  There are other, non serviceable, filters on the fuel pump anyhow.
