M240 Trailer Dexter Hitch backup Surge Lockout

TURNITRED

Recommended Posts

Hey Crew--Did anyone's M240 come with a lockout mechanism for the surge brakes when backing the trailer?  I leave my boat on a lift and keep the trailer at my barn and am having a heck of a time backing it into bark (uphill) with the brakes not engaging.  My old dorsey trailer had the little silver key that would stop the surge from compressing.  Didn't see anything come with this boat to do that.

I have never seen a surge trailer without a manual lockout for the brakes.  On my '17 22 MXZ, the silver, aluminum lockout was in the zippered bag with all the manuals.  You can order a better option for $13 on Amazon, the magnet keeps it from falling out.  I keep a couple for each trailer I have with surge brakes.

I'm sure that ability exists if you have to use it in a pinch when your solenoid isn't working.  I'll have to look around and see if I have a lockout key anywhere for my trailer (2012 Boatmate).  My bayliner trailer had one, but it was a cheap trailer with no solenoid.

The larger trailers do not have a lockout key. Easiest thing to do is take a large c clamp and put in on the silver coupler part to prevent it from sliding back.

That’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?   I use my tractor to back it in under the awning on my barn. It’s a tight area and much easier to do with the tractor and bucket that my truck.

You can also just provide 12v to the blue wire in the harness, and hookup the ground.  Many people i know that use tractors or utility 4x4's to move boats just wire up a harness to actuate the backup release.
