DD trans leaking at shifter seal?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys-

My 2001 sslxi started leaking trans fluid into the bilge a couple of years ago.  ZF HSW 450D transmission.  I struggled to figure out where it was coming from.  Ended up pulling trans and replacing input and output seals.  For some stupid reason I did not replace the shifter seal.  It is still leaking, and I think it’s at the shifter.  Does anyone know if there is normally fluid pressure behind the seal in that area?  I can change that seal without pulling the trans again,  but I will need to take that side exhaust hose and riser off.  At this point it’s hard to say if it was leaking there as the boat has been sitting all winter and the outside of the transmission is dry there.
