Sporadic reverse

Recommended Posts

2013 VTX doesn't always engage in reverse right away.  Have to put back in neutral & than back in reverse & hope it engages than.  What can I do to mitigate this pucker factor situation? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help.

If it is cable shift (not electric), you probably just need to change the nut ends of your shift cable.  Do the throttle cable at the same time.  They wear out.  They are cheap and pretty easy to find.

Count the number of turns off with the old one and then back on with the new one so you don't spend too much time trying to get it adjusted.

Your 2013 would be all electronic.  So your possibilities are.  Bad throttle control (microswitch failing).  Bad connection somewhere between throttle and reverse solinoid.  Or bad solenoid.   Most likely is the throttle.
