Assistance with build details for older boat (1992)

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Spoke with Malibu this morning, and they informed me that they would be unable to provide details or replacement build sheet with this boat. The very nice gentleman at Malibu recommended I come here in an attempt to solicit data. I have read some of the hull number breakdown, just looking for more details. I do not currently have pictures.

State Registration/documents Labeled as 1992 Malibu Flightcraft 18' 240 HP, Hull number MB 2 6624 A 292.

Thank you for your time.

I assume by the horsepower that you have an inboard with a Mercruiser engine.  What details are you looking for?

I was told by the owner that it is a "1 of 8 1992" special edition "Australian" Barefoot boat, with a Ford 351 motor. Wasn't sure if the hull number would confirm engine, package, and or accessories.

I'm sorry for lack of information, but its part of an estate and we are still looking through documentation for a build sheet/title.

The 240HP in on the registration may/may not be accurate.

Please post a few photos, including the engine.

That is a Ford based pcm either 351 or 302.

You should have a metal tag on it and can use this picture to decode the info.

@DoubleASD - From the HIN (hull identification number) the last three digits are build date Feb 92, MB 2 stands for which plant, I think 2 being Meced Ca (IIRC), 1 was Tennessee but someone can correct me on that if I have it reversed.

Here is a 92 manual, might offer some useful info:  https://cdn.malibuboats.com/docs/owner-manuals/1982-1992MalibuOwnersManual.pdf?_ga=2.213127124.1987337121.1677352515-1924081029.1677352514

The model number on this boat is PLP-PR-L10PT which doesn't exactly line up to the decoder.

Woohoo google and a boring team meeting to the rescue.

Check out page 11 of the 1993 pcm manual. It shows the specs for the plp / prp engine.

It shows the HP being 285 and it's a ford 351.
