Prop recommendations for 2022 LSV with Lt4

Recommended Posts

My new boat just arrived and currently has the 17x15.5 prop. My question has anyone run the same setup with that prop and also the 17x17? We mainly surf and cruise the lake. I read a post where a speed prop  was recommended to cut the RPMs / gas consumption while surfing. I am not at high elevation.

I’m wondering the same thing yet I’m at elevation with the same prop on my T250 arriving soon . There are 18” options as well but I have no clue where to go once you change to 18” . I’m sure I will have the power with the LT4, but the prop seems to be key . We surf and cruise only

I would think you would want the speed prop for your configuration.  FWIW, I have the 17 x 17 on my 2021 23 LSV and it performs very well.

Based on those numbers it looks like the standard prop fairs better. Different boat I know but there can't be that much difference.

I"d have to disagree.  I have essentially the same boat as the OP.  Using the speed prop and M6 combination, we have much lower RPM than with the standard 17 x 15.5.  We ordered the 2805 and keep the 17 x 15.5 as a spare.  There is a thread here about this so I'm not going to dive into details, but suffice it say that the performance improvement was wonderful.

The T250 in this example is heavier than the 23 LSV and equipped with the LT4.  The prior example is a 25LSV, also with the LT4 and also heavier than the T250 yet running the 17 x 17.  The RPM delta is nominal at surf speed, but as speed is increased, the PRM delta increases in favor of the 17 x 17.  The comparison between the T250 with the LT4 and the 25 LSV with the LT4 both with the 2805 would be interesting to see.  It's not an accurate comparison with the 17 x 15.5 and 17 x 17 in the 25' boats.  It's also an unfair comparison for 25' boats with a supercharged engine and a 23' boat without one.  Therefore, drawing any conclusion as to what could be expected in the 23 LSV is not appropriate even when considering the nominal weight delta between the T250 (Dry weight of 5,500#) and the 23LSV (Dry weight of 5,200#).

My suggestion to @Triggeris to buy a 2805, put it on and see what it does.  If he doesn't like it's performance, sell it on here.  Someone will surely buy it.  BTW, @Trigger....which engine do you have in your 23LSV?

I’m surprised at the surfing rpm’s, but the ballast and wedge settings are not indicated, so, wondering how much drag is present in the picture. The cruising rpm’s seem to correlate with what I am experiencing.

Sorry to veer of course but I’m loving the extra engine operating parameters on the Garmin display that are not on the Malibu display!

Good point on the wedge settings for my previous surf RPM pic, and unfortunately I don’t recall.  Here’s another pic showing 2760 RPM with the following:

Full ballast including PNP (550 lbs PNP rear bags)

5 people onboard - approximately 650 lbs

450 lbs of lead (150 lbs under observer’s compartment, 100 on each side in front of each rear bag, and 50 next to transmission/ V-drive access cover)

Wedge at 3

Well now I am confused as to which prop to start with with my new 25LSV and the LT4.  I ordered the Standard prop because I load my boats beyond what others do in order to get the largest wakeboard wake possible form every hull.  I wakeboard 90% and surf 8% etc...  I doubt the speed prop will get a new 25LSV with everything full, extra lead, and full of people on plane.  I don't know because I don't have much experience with the LT4

@Gene3x The LT4 is a beast.  From what you have said, I think you'll be happy with the standard prop, and you can always order the speed prop as a backup later if you want to try it (or wait until one of us tries to hit wakeboard speeds with heavy weighting).  With the LT4, I can easily get on plane at wakeboard speeds with all of the ballast loaded using the Standard prop.

At some point, I will try the Speed Prop, since I mostly surf; however I am pleasantly surprised by the performance (relatively low RPMs and tons of torque) I am seeing with the Standard prop on my Axis.  My brother in law said that while watching from the ramp that it looked like the boat jumped out of the water when I hit the throttle

From what I hear I should be pleasantly surprised.  This is the first time I have opted for the biggest motor option as most of the time others would suffice.  With this newer deeper hull I hope that it will rival the M240 or even the G23 in terms of wakeboard wake.

@Gene3x, you might be surprised.  WIth the M6 in our 2021 23LSV, I had no issues getting on plane fully loaded with the speed prop.  Never an issue and the wakeboard wake was solid.  I know others here with 2021 25LSV, M6, and the speed prop combination had the same experiences, albeit not at elevation.  I can't imagine you would have difficulty with the LT4 and that prop on the 2022 25LSV.  I ordered a 2022 25 LSV with the M6 and standard prop and will be using it as a back up and taking the speed prop off my 23 before it sells.  That will give me an opportunity to try it.  I agree with @SurfNAZ, you should at least try it.  Worst case is you have a spare or I'm sure you could find a buyer for it if you decide against it.

Is one less expensive than the other?  I know the "wakeboard prop" on other boats have been more expensive and seem to hold their value.

There is an upcharge on the build sheet, but there really shouldn't be.  Looking at wakemakers, all of the 17" props sell for the same price (currently $769).

Standard is included in the build.  The others are a nominal additional cost.

ok, someone educate me.

My back of the envelope says this is beyond an ideal prop -- e.g. at 3130 rpm, with a 2:1 transmission that means prop turns 1565rev/min?  if an ideal prop advances 15.5 in/rev, that's 24250 inches/min...converted to mph gives 23mph...

where did i go wrong?

Slip

Shouldn't slip make you slower? I.e instead of going 15.5inches each rev you would only go 14 or whatever.

Maybe LT4 has a different transmission?

I don’t think the LT4 comes with a 2:1 transmission.  I can’t recall if it is 1.5:1 or 1.76:1.

A 1.5:1 would make sense.  That much torque and you can do whatever you want.

I have a m 240 ordered and the dealer said it would come with an 18x14. Does this sound correct?

didn't realize the M240 would have an 18 inch prop;  the 14 inch pitch sounds low.   What motor - M6 or LT4?  elevation you'll be boating? surfing or wakeboarding?

That does sound low for a standard prop with the standard M6 motor but my 2021 24MXZ fully loaded with the M6 struggled when I had a large crew of people so the extra size and weight of that M240 is probably about right.
