Re skin or reupholster rear backrest in 2004 LXI

Recommended Posts

I need some advise from experienced owners/techs.
Has anyone removed the back rest in order to take it to an upholsterer? Any advice for a FYI er? Does the gas tank need to come out (boat is winterized with an almost full tank). Are skins available (I’m in Toronto).

I just redid mine, I had to take loose the upholstered pieces on the sides, because the angles had mine wedged in.  That was the most difficult part.  I got my skins from Gabe at https://gabescustommarine.com/

he sued to work for Malibu, and can still source matching material...although depending on how faded or dirty yours others are, it still will be noticeably different.  If you can include a picture of what the exact configuration I'm sure there are others that can help also.  Most of mine was attached with screws in engine compartment, few in the sides, but none underneath.

On my 01 SS lxi there were 4 small lags on each side holding the seat back (the sides of it) to the inside of the gunnels.  Then there were just some angle brackets holding the seat back to the seat base frames.  Reaching the lags was a bit of a pain, but not too bad.

Yes thanks but the LXI backrest is right at the back in front of the tank.  Haven’t looked yet under the winterizing tarps but trying to figure out how to remove the whole backrest…..

IIRC, I removed the trunk lid, then removed the port and starboard trim, then was able to get the backrest out
