1990 Malibu skier---- Looking for drivetrain and hull manuals

Recommended Posts

Im new to owning  a boat and to this forum.  I have a 1990 Malibu Skier and want to identify my drivetrain as it a bit confusing . Im a mechanic get the whole marine parts idea. Im looking to find a manual that would be for the hull. Also lookinf for a drivetrail manual. This thing has points and I'd like to convert to pertronix ignition or buy swap out the system altogether. One question is does this system use a ballast resistor and if so where is it located. Here is my hull number is anyone can help out. thanks.

What type of engine and transmission are in your boat? If the engine is manufactured by Mercury Marine, you will be able to find an owner's manual for it online. You can use the engine serial number to search for specific information and parts. Same goes for the transmission.

Based on personal experience, I highly recommend replacing your existing ignition system with a D.U.I. Performance Distributor.

It looks to be a gen II 5.7l GM engine. Block castng number is 14093638 and the number stamped in the front pad is v07069AB. Which I cant seem to find.looks to be built july 6th, but I can not seem to find the AB degination on any of my automotive sites.

Post a photo of the engine and exhaust manifolds. (You will have to up load them and link them here or join as a paying member and upload directly).  While it sounds like you have a Chevy block, the engine will have been finished out as a boat engine by Indmar or Mercury or some other company.  It’s also possible it is not original to your boat or it is someone’s creation. All are good, but that’s the starting point.

It definitely original as I purchased from a friend of the family. They arent technical and always took it in for service. So they are no help. Ill get some photos today after work.
