Heater core hoses capped

Hello all,

first time winterizing the boat. I purchased it this year from a guy who lives by the beach (boat wasn’t run in salt and doesn’t show any major rust like it would have been).

while doing the Heater core I noticed this (see photos).

previous owner capped the heater core hoses. Now I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed as a government employee however, I do know circuits shouldn’t be interrupted.

boat ran great this summer and never needed the heater so I wouldn’t have had to troubleshoot it.

thoughts?

More than likely the heater core leaks, or he never intended on using it. Mine is capped off as well but the lines are connected together. When I winterize I just shoot some compressed air through the lines.

Either way I would not worry about it unless you want to use the heater. Then I would pull the heater and test for leaks before hooking it up.

I'll bet the heat core leaks and that was the quick fix to stop hot water leaking. You could attach two hoses to the core, apply light pressure (5 psi) and see if it holds.

Should I connect the lines together? It’s been like this for some time as it’s got some surface rust on the caps. Not to familiar with how the circuit runs. Following the lines, one comes of the water pump and the other comes off the top of the motor just under the flame arrestor.

No.  Doesn't matter.  Just drain the water and call it a day.

Thanks.

as always. I appreciate the time.

there was a lot of jimmy rigged stuff on this boat I’m excited to go through this winter. Full ballast makeover, electrical and stereo makeover, steering cable possibly (starting to get tight).
