Yesterday perfect today not turning over

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

thanks for being here, I’ve already learned so much. We have a 98 Sunsetter VLX

yesterday everything went perfect, today Filled up (10% ethanol) I know, we were excited.
back up at launch, went to start to warm up and nothing. Battery was good, oil good, just replace fuel filter but starter made no noise. That’s my first guess but asking what other troubleshooting items you would recommend before replacing it?

Thank you in advance

Yes, launch was empty so I spent a good 30 minutes messing all I could think of including kill switch, and throttle to make sure in neutral.

Did you check to make sure your battery connections were good and tight? What happens when you turn the key? Gauges dance? You sure you didn't leave the radio on or something that drained the battery(s). How did you confirm your battery is good?

I had a similar situation, but mine happened on the lake. Skied for a while and drove to a cove. Went to start it after an hour or so, and nothing. Turned out to be the perko switch went bad. The old one had a ton of corrosion. While replacing the perko switch I changed my battery wires too. After 20+ years in a marine environment, not a bad idea.

I did also recently have to replace my ignition switch. My boat has around 700 hours on it, for reference.

Or maybe your engine knows ethanol is crap and is refusing to burn it.
