Going old-school - Best (affordable) mp3 player?

I am coming from a 2001 boat with a cd drive and have about 100 cds with all our favorite music. I would prefer not to use my smartphone to store the music and play it. We also boat in places without cell service so need downloadable music. My thought is to burn the cds and get an mp3 player ($100 or less) to be the boat music device that lives on the boat. Any recommendations for mp3 players?

Just to clarify, most smartphones will allow you to download music directly to your device. My lakes have no service either, and I use downloaded music on my phone for offline streaming to my boat via Bluetooth at the lake.

I would suggest an iPod touch as an MP3 player.

Does your head unit have a usb input?  I'd go with a memory stick.

That's definitely an easy solution, but I'd like a screen to switch between albums and songs and see what is currently playing that way.

Yes, I am aware of that but don't like to have that many gigs of songs taking up space on my phone.

Thanks!

buy and old iphone, and use as MP3 player only.  That will be your easiest.

I Have an old iPhone 4 hooked up to my home receiver for Pandora. It works great off of WiFi.

Use and old iPhone or iPod touch.  Or just use your phone.  Subscribe to Spotify or jump on a friends spotify account.  Burn CDs?  Welcome to 20yrs ago lol.  Not worth it.
