Rpm question

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2014 247 lsv.  We had it out surfing this weekend.  It has the monsoon 450 and I believe the stock prop.

I notice that when cruising ( yes I emptied the ballast and had the wedge up)  it took quite a bit higher rpm than my old sunsetter vlx to have the same speed.  Going about 23 mph took about 3300rpm.  I know the boat it quite a bit bigger and heavier…. Is this pretty normal?

This is normal.  The newer and bigger boats are "geared lower" with really torquey prop and transmission setups.  You won't find a newer V drive that runs RPMs anywhere close to what you're used to with your '01.

My friend had same boat.  His stock prop was 1235.  Decent top end speed but not great for surfing or getting to plane fast.  There’s lots of good prop options out there that will give that motor a lot more snap.  Just depends on how much top end speed you want to give up.
