98 Response LX carb replacement

Hello All,

We have a 98 Response LX with Indmar 310.   The original 4010 is corroded from prior owner neglect.

I am wanting to purchase a new carb for this boat.   What should I buy?

Thanks,
EZ

I would try a rebuild first with a toothbrush prescrub and then using a gallon dip can of cleaner (not spray cleaner) to soak everything in.  It should do a good job of removing all of the gunk and corrosion.  The full rebuild kit is somewhat less expensive than a new carb.

If you must replace it, what would be wrong with the same one?

He 4010 has always been thought of as a not great carb... most replace it with a 4160.  the 4010 is thought to have some passages which are not cleanable. tons of info on team talk about this subject. also, most important thing is to use a heavy duty base gasket (or two if you have a spacer. ski dim has the green indmar ones).

The OEM on my previous 1998 was a Holley 4150.  You sure it is the Holley 4010?  Maybe the previous owner changed it out.  I know for many folks the 4150 worked very well.  you could also send it out to be rebuild, others on this forum had recommended flying fish carbs.
