Cavitation | Hot Prop Shaft

Recommended Posts

Was out today in our 2019 A22 and noticed what I thought was some cavitation or maybe something caught on the prop.   Seemed to go away but we noticed it twice after having been under power for an extended period of time.   After we trailered out, the prop was fine, free of debris but I noticed that the shaft was warm to the touch and the gel coat as well right where it comes through the hull.   Any connection or ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Hooked it up to the fake a lake today, dripless packing is working great so that eliminates a potential issue there.   I did notice that the shaft is slightly off center?  Meaning there is ~1/4” visible on the right side of the hull pass through and 1/8” on the left.  On the right side I can make out what looks like a white seal or bushing inside the hull but I can’t see anything on the left since it is so narrow.   I can spin the prop with my hand, no grinding sounds or anything.   It isn’t as easy to spin as my buddies 210 but it’s not too difficult.  Not sure what the standard would be for pressure.

Strut is straight - haven’t hit anything submerged.

I am going to stop by the dealer on Wednesday to confirm I'm not out of alignment.  We have our last big lake trip coming up in a few weeks so I just want to be sure!

Looks like I was out of alignment and running tight on the port side at the through hull and in the strut.  Dealer adjusted and said that was most likely the culprit.
