Water drains from Starter motor while running

Recommended Posts

New to Malibu, I just fixed the water bilge pump(thanks for the help getting to it)

now when I run the engine while in the lake. Water is coming out of the starter, cool water doesn’t get hot lake temperature. Any ideas?

Has to be running down the engine from somewhere.  I'd check for a leaky exhaust manifold or core(freeze) plug.

Worst case would be that it is a core plug in the bellhousing area of the block.

Guess worst case would actually be a crack in the block near the starter

OP states that the water is cool/lake temp. Sounds like the leak must be on the intake side of the water pump / thermostat. Loose hose clamp? Pinhole leak in hose?

Would be odd that stuff from the front of the engine would be running off the starter, but who knows

The knock sensor is just ahead of the starter.  Perhaps it got cross threaded and is spraying onto the starter.

At least with a direct drive you can remove the hood and get in there for a good look.
