'95 Response Fuel pump Q

Hey again,

Another question for you all. I have a '95 response and its not getting any fuel to the carb. Pulled the fuel line off and cranked and cranked nothing coming out of the line to the carb. Before I replace the pump which is a mechanical pump ran off the block. Is there any recommendations of other causes? Fuel filter clog etc.?

Thanks!

You can try running the engine using a portable fuel container instead as a test.  Many mechanical fuel pumps will either push fuel into the emergency bypass hose or into the engine crankcase when they fail.  A broken pump arm, pump rod, or camshaft can prevent it from pumping any fuel, but those failures are very uncommon.

Using a longer bolt on the front of the block near the pump mounting boss is an old trick to hold the pump rod in place when changing the pump.

You could replace with a low pressure electric fuel pump like the Carter 4389 and put a 6 lbs fuel regulator before the carburetor.  You can keep the old fuel pump in place or add a cover plate so you don't loose any oil.

There is usually an inline filter just after the fuel tank pickup (wix: 33482) or Napa Gold 3482.
