Drivetrain noise when accelerating

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 2003 Response LXI with approx 900 hours.  A couple days ago I starting getting a loud clanging noise when the boat is accelerating.  It started after pulling a skier, then the next time I went to pull a skier I started hearing the noise. It seems to only happen during acceleration and then gets quieter once the boat is up to speed.  Any ideas of what this could be or what I could look for to help diagnose the issue.

Have you checked fluid level?  My 01 SSlxi had a trans leak and once the level got low enough that when going to pull up a skier the trans would slip then 'bang' into gear.  Not good.  Luckily no damage was done.
