Steering wheel and dash look terrible

Recommended Posts

Hi - the steering wheel and dash around the gauges on my 2005 Malibu Wakesetter look terrible. Can the steering wheel be recovered by anyone? can the deterioration on the dash be replaced or treated? Andrew

By dash do you mean the upholstered area or the chrome around the gauges?  I'm not sure the wheel can be recovered, but there are many suitable replacement steering wheels available out there.  The Dash upholstery can definitely be redone.  Check with Gabe https://gabescustommarine.com/  and I'm sure he'll provide you with a skin for it.  If you meant the chrome, I took mine off along with the glove compartment door, and had them powder-coated black.  Got rid of the peeling, flaking chrome.  Can show pics if that's what you are talking about.

Thanks, yes its the chrome. How do I upload a photo of it? it only says 'insert image from URL'

Somewhere I've seen owners remove the chrome and powdercoat the bezel black.  Much easier on the eyes and won't corrode.  A very nice upgrade, IMHO.

Thanks. Any thoughts on where to purchase the replacement steering-wheel? and is it easy really tricky to install?

For posting pictures you can do it one of two ways. You can become a supporting member to be able to upload directly from your phone or laptop, plus unlock discount codes. Or you can use a third party host site and copy the img code here.

I've not done any wheel replacement, but maybe this thread will help.  Advantage of becoming a member - the knowledge and discounts more than make up for the minimal cost.

I have a slightly used Isotta steering wheel (inkl. hub & cap) that I would sell.
It’s a leftover from my 2006 Response.

PM me if interested. I can email you some pics.
