1990 Malibu Sunsetter - Replacing Stringers / broken motor mounts

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've got a 1990 Malibu Sunsetter with 600 hrs.

It's in GREAT shape minus finding out that a lot of the wood (stringers?) is rotting. Most recently, I've noticed the wood that supports the motor mounts is collapsing.

Looking for advice - I'm guessing the repairs will be more than the worth of the boat ~15k, but I've got some sentimental attachment and want to bring this thing back to life.

I'm guessing the upholstery, carpet, and motor will need to be pulled to gut the stringers / replace? Will most likely go through the motor / transmission while I chip away at the stringers / floor.

I'd appreciate and tips, or if there is someone that does this for a living, I'd appreciate the advice.

I live in Nashville, TN.
