2010 Malibu v-ride Engine ECU not communicating for 25 seconds

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 2010 Malibu v-ride that says "Engine ECU not communicating for 25 seconds" I was out on the water, I went to turn the boat on and it would not start. I had been using the boat all day and then one time I went to start it it that happened. I took the batteries out and charged them fully. Everything else works and has power but when I turn the key over the code pops up and does not allow the boat to start.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue several years ago…ended up being my terminals that connected to the battery.  Ended putting new ones on and issue was solved.

Thank you for the feedback, I replaced the two batteries and the terminals and it did not help. I also checked every wire connection I could find. I think I may have to just take it into the shop

Check the main 16 pin rectangular boat to engine harness connector for corrosion or pin damage, especially on the CAN wires.

If there is a module connected to the CAN which has an internal short, then it will disable the CAN,   including the smart start auto cranking feature.  By disconnecting one module at a time and then turning on the helm power you may be able to find a bad module.  Some of the items on the CAN aside from the engine ECM are the paddlewheel, depth transducer, primary and secondary power modules, MUX switch controls, info center display, and the radio control module (if your boat has one).
