Making your own lead wake

I’ve seen a handful of people do this, and I’m in the process as well.

I ended up buying probably 150# of old wheel weights (from a tire shop) for around $15 bucks. I plan on buying empty bags (like the lead wake ones) and putting these weights into the bag. I plan on throwing these bags into the bow of the boat. The only problem is I can’t find any empty bags.

If any of you know of an empty steel shot bag (like lead wakes) and could link it that would be awesome!

I believe these are the ones I used.  Work great to hold 30-40ish lbs per bag.  Small enough to grab easily and stash in different areas.

If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can buy a roll of canvas fabric, cut them into squares, place your weights into a watertight bag and then into the center of the canvas squares, then sew the edges shut. Think of it like making giant lead ravioli.

These look good! Maybe some zip-loc bags then duct tape those. Put that contraption in the black bag.

way cheaper than missions bags. $30 for an empty bag. Might as well pay the extra 20 for the steel shot lol.

I didn't take any extra steps.  Just poured the wheel weights into the bags and zipped them up and stuffed them in the boat where needed.  Link says they are water resistant.
