Replacing old Rule 700 gph Aerator ballast pump with ?

I need to replace one or both of the aerator fill pumps for the rear ballast tanks. I have a ball valve attached to hull fitting then the old Rule pump which is appx 4" in height. It dosen't seem like I have room for the new attwood, piranha or tsunami pumps which all are about 6 1/4" tall. Anybody else had to change them out? This all started when I decided to take one of them out, to tighten the packing nut on the shaft. (Pain in btt on a V drive)  Anyway to measure the drip/second on land besides filling the hull with water which seems weird putting water inside your boat. Thanks in advance Chris
