Mechanical System Alert - SPN:65591

Recommended Posts

2014 Malibu Wakesetter

I just purchased this boat with 125 hours and my 3rd time out I keep getting the Alarm for Mechanical System Alert - SPN 65591

The dealership is 4hrs away, does any have an advice on what this issue is and how to fix it?

Cylinder 1 misfire. Plug, wire, cap, rotor, fuel injector are possible.  Issue won't clear on its own until 3 complete cool down cycles with no error.

It is possible to burn out an exhaust cat by continuing to run with a rich cylinder.  It is best to limit your use until you figure this out.

Like @oldjeep said, start with the tuneup basics to pick all of the low-hanging fruit at once.

Also worth checking with Indmar or dealer to see if the 2014 had an ECM update available. My 2012 had phantom misfire codes for years before I found out that the misfire detection on the 2012's was not working properly in some cases and they had released a new calibration for the ecm.
