GPS has started dropping randomly

Recommended Posts

2014 Wakesetter 22 MXZ with Nautic Logic GPS installed 4 years ago.  Worked flawlessly......until yesterday.

Boat runs fine.  But MPH is now displaying incorrectly when running - manual, not when cruise control.

MPH displayed at idle would creep up to 40 mph. Below 8 MPH or seemingly less than 2500 rpm works fine - then slowly drops off to zero.

Sometimes it displays accurately when heading in one direction, but when you turn, it drops off.

Gps puck has been secured and in same position last 4 years.  No recent changes to boat except fuel filter replaced and batteries replaced - 2 weeks prior to when GPD started acting up - and it displayed fine during interim.

Cant see any wiring issues - no mice chewed wires, etc.

Fuses good.

Bad receiver? It's solid state so hard to break those things.  Lightning strike near the boathouse fritzed it?

Anybody else experience this?

Welcome to the crew.  Several things come to mind:

  • You have a cruddy connection somewhere.  This could be power or data lines.
  • You added a bimini, wet towels, or something else over the antenna.
  • You added a big honking stereo and ran the wires near the antenna or the cabling from it.

I would say that if it works at all, it is still good.  My vote is on the bad connection.
