Malibu 2020 24' MXZ Steering locks up

Recommended Posts

Has anyone other than me experienced the steering locking up or feeling like a steering cable is getting hung up after turning all the way left (or right), then turning back the other way?  It just started doing this to us yesterday.  Wonder if this is an easy fix or something I need to bring it into the dealership to repair.  Thanks!

I would check to see if anything is physically interfering with the steering arm at the aft of the engine compartment, like hoses or wiring.  Otherwise, proper steering is very critical and I would highly recommend you take the boat to your dealer to have it checked out before operating the boat again.

Yes mine does it. Talked to dealer, we are going to wait a few weeks until I'm out of town in case it has to be taken out of service. Apparently if you have to replace the cable it takes a few days.

It seems to have gotten a little better.

I just had this happen on my 1994 Malibu Echelon ... yes, I know it is an old boat but I have a new engine with only 47 hours on it and am gradually upgrading pieces.  What did the dealer end up saying about the boat?  I have the exact sam problem ... I will turn one way and then it will lock up when I'm turning back.  If I turn it again (opposite the lock) and then turn it back, it usually fixed itself.  But this is a little concerning.  Never seen this problem before.

You need to see how far it is turning to each side in full lock.

Even them out by adjusting the cable tube in the back.

Too far one way and it can bind.
