Volume control via Bluetooth

We have a 2016 A20 with the Kicker Media Center head unit.  I have no problem connecting via Bluetooth with my iPhone 11.  However, unlike every other Bluetooth device I connect to, the volume control on my phone seems to be disabled when connected to the Kicker unit. I can not turn the volume up or down with the phone, I can only control the volume at the head unit or transom remote.  Anyone had this issue and is there a fix?

I have that latest OS on the phone and have messed with the device type settings on the Bluetooth connection at the phone. I don't see anything to change in the Kicker menus.

The odd thing is when my daughter connects an older iPhone (an 8, I think), the volume control on her phone will control the volume on the Kicker unit.

Any suggestions?

have you deleted the device in your phone and discovered it again?

This is actually an I phone thing. Ive come across it with I phones on many other brands of media units. Contact the media unit's tech support and ask if there is a software update available.
