Question about K&N Filter Monsoon 340

Recommended Posts

Just got an 04 Response Lxi with the Monsoon 340.   Been in Nautiques for 10 years so just trying to get familiar with this engine.  Mine has the K&N cone filter on the back of the engine.   Is this something you can clean or does it have to be regularly replaced?  I see Bakes has a filter cleaning kit but I wasnt sure if that applied to this filter.

I believe this is the arrestor I have.

And yes wondering if they can be cleaned with the kit mentioned above or do they just get replaced?

They are generally not replaced.  You can remove it and spray carb cleaner through it, or even just dunk it in soapy hot water to remove the gunk that builds up.  I'm not even sure of a need to let it fully dry before use since the engine can easily ingest any vapor that comes off as it dries off in the incoming air flow.

@MTBoyI have the same engine in my 2006 RLXi.  I remove and clean the filter each season when I winterize it.  I then bag the intake prior to storage.  I allow the filter to completely dry.  Then I oil it, put it in a bag, and it's ready to go in the spring.

Slayer,  does the bag just keep the oil from drying out then?

It really doesn't dry out.  It remains kind of sticky.  The purpose of bagging it is to keep any dust from accumulating on the filter when it's stored for the winter.

I do the same with my Harley and my dirt bikes.  For the dirt bikes, I have 2 so that I keep one always oiled and ready to go when I'm traveling so I can simply swap them.

Got it.  That makes sense.  Thanks!

Always been a Nautique guy but really digging this Response so far.

You have one of the best skiing hulls ever made, IMO.  Which Nautique did you have?  I've skied several and some are fantastic and others are meh..

Had a 97 Sport Nautique which was a project boat.  Good boat but promised myself no more projects!   Then a gorgeous SV 211 that I loved but a compromise.  Neither had great ski wakes IMHO even though I am a lousy skier.  Saw this Lxi come up for sale at a really good deal and couldn’t come up with a reason not to get it.  It just made a lot of sense for my situation.   Glad to be done with ballast and towers for now…..

only skied behind it twice so far but loving the ski wake!

I'm happy to hear you're liking the wake.  It's a great boat with a really awesome hull.
