Anyone have experience with this? I have a 99 vlx that im getting a decent wave out of, but seems like it could use more push. But a big thing i was wondering is can you use less bow ballast with the surf tabs?

Yes, especially with a center tab too. But you will want more weight overall.

I dont think a center tab will work with a wedge

I have GSA on newer hull, but it does exactly what you are asking.  Less bow weight required due to some lift from the tabs and it has more push at the back of wave.  Wave feels firmer than a suckgate wave at same speed and setup.  @smileysteve is correct with more overall weight.  The guys at GSA told me to just move some of my current weight from front to rear and keep the overall same amount, just change the ratio.  I found that worked well, but I added another 500 in lead bags and upgraded rear bags from 750s to 1000s.  Now wave is exponentially better.
