Anyone tried or heard Skar Audio Marine speakers?

I was going to redue our boat with 4 6.5 WS Revo's refurbs for $250 each set, or look at an older SW-65ic-B-KB's for $150 but then my brother ran into these Skar Marine speakers and said he had heard good things about them.  6.5's run $120, 8's 190.

We have toddlers so its not like we can really crank the stereo anymore anyways :(. Except that odd boys weekend ;)

I'm wondering if anyone has tried them out?  We are thinking of possibly putting 8" in the rear and 2 6.5's in the dash.  Its a 2001 Malibu VLX Sunsetter will be running off a RF 50RMS a channel 4 channel amp.

Thanks for the input

I have the 6.5" Skar marine speakers in my 2003 VLX. I don't have much to compare them to but they sound great to me and I don't think you could get much more bang for the buck. 4 boat speakers, Subwoofer, and amps for a total of $1,000

They were just a bit larger than the original speakers so I had to open up the holes for them to fit.

I am powering them with the Skar RP-150.4AB amp  https://www.skaraudio.com/products/rp-150-4ab-car-amplifier

Also in the boat I have the 10" EVL-10 subwoofer powered by the RP-1500.1D amp and mounted in the 10" armored sub box. The sub fits nicely under the dash.

For the headunit I am using the Fusion MS-RA70 which mounts perfect into the stock spot behind the throttle.

Just put these in my 2000 escape wakesetter.

They sound great although the dash speakers overpower me while I’m driving. All I hear.

going to look at a ws 420 to fix that but just wanted to share my experience.

you will definitely have to open the holes up. It comes with a stencil and was easy to do with a router or dremel

Same thing with the dash speakers which I think is more related to the windshield reflection. I have them set up where I can fade them front to rear and just bias to the rear speakers when needed.

💯 the reflection off the windshield. I ended up unplugging them as I couldn’t get the volume needed to the tower speakers because I was bleeding from the ears in the driver seat.

I like the idea of fading but also love the control of the ws420

If the dash speakers are on their own amp channel pairing, just gain them down a little. Id the dash speakers are paired with other main cabin speakers, zone control will not achieve your goal, as you would turn all the speakers on that zone down.

I used a SKAR audio compact series 4 channel amp in my Bu, working so far. Had for a year only though, my next boat will have more SKAR equipment in it

Thats what I'm wondering too.

I plan to have the 4 speakers (2 dash, 2 rear at engine under seat facing forward) those will be on a RF 4 channel getting 50 RMS each.  I will then put the tower speakers on another 2 channel amp that can push 200 RMS a channel though I had thought of running one sub off that amp or I can get anther amp for the sub from a friend.

I do need to get to get a 2nd battery and move them all up to the other compartment though.  I think that will be the winter project (that never happened last year ;) )

Anyone try running the Skar 8" in a tower enclosure? I know kicker has some cheaper tower enclosures.

In this configuration, you gain the rear speakers to the proper setting, then gain up the dash speakers until their levels are equal at the captains chair. Now, if you have bow speakers, then you can A) go with the 6 chnl amp (or another 2 chnl) B) pair them with the main cabin or C) pair them with the dash speakers. I like "C" in some cases, as some owners like the bow to be a little quieter then the rest of the boat. So pairing them with dash speakers, which are gained down to compensate for their acoustical advantage reflecting off the glass.

Once you eliminate the dash speaker's advantage, then you can control the entire amp, 4 or 6 chnl, with a single zone dial of your master zone controller.

I'm not going to put any up front since I think that is normally where the kids are (5 months and 3 years) so cant really get that loud on the boat anyways.  This is why I'm wondering if I should just go towers so I can turn it up while I am out riding and hopefully angle away from the people in the boat a bit.

Usually I just want me as the driver to hear anyways since everyone else is not into the music unless its a guys weekend or we can somehow cruise without the kids... not very often ;)

I got 10 Type R 10's I might just look at using one of them (10 years old) into https://www.skaraudio.com/products/ar1x10v-single-10-inch-armor-coated-ported-subwoofer-enclosure and call it a day for now, they used to pound in my car but as I mentioned above with the kids there is not so much pounding of the stereo going on.
