Mdc Gauge Controller, Speedometer Quit working

Recommended Posts

The other day the speedometer quit working and now I notice that there is water coming out of the Medallion under the steering wheel and my mechanic is recommending to replace the Mdc Controller. does anyone know if the numbers have to be an exact match?

I found one that looks the same but the numbers aren't exact. The original is: 6607-20006-01 E  The new one 6607-20009-01 F

Anyone know if this would work?

I have no idea if it will work, but if it were mine I would pull it and resolder all of the connections on the board.  Your pressure sensor or hose has a hole in it, causing the water leak.  If you don't have Perfect Pass, you can add it and replace your speedometer, then plug the pitot hoses before they get to the dash.  Speed would then come from GPS.

All of the other gauges are working, so I am assuming I could just replace the speedometer with a perfect pass speedometer and leave the rest?

All of the gauges except the depth finder, and there is power to it, but I doesn't power on any idea how to test the depth finder?

Try to find the leak and fix it. If the leak is where the tube connects to the white hose barb on the MDC it could be as simple as cutting 1/2" off the pitot tube (if you have enough slack) and connecting again. Or add some zip ties to try to improve the seal. Blow the water out the back before you make connection again. There should be no water in that tube...only air.

I blew out the hoses the other day before we used it and it still didnt work, but I did see that you can test the the medallion by blowing controlled compressed air into the tubes to see if the speedometer works, so I may try that before replacing it.

Pressure from your lungs should do it.  Too much will definitely blow the sensor.

The pitot hoses allow some water into the MDC pressure sensor for the speedometer and it can be damaged by freezing weather.  It was once a common practice to remove the MDC during freezing weather to protect it.
