OJ 949?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody used/using the OJ949 prop? It’s a 15x15. I’m currently using a 2279 and 2249 on my 2019 A22 with the PCM409. I’m hoping for a little more then the 2279 but not as much as the 2249 to keep RPMs down.

I’m curious about this too. I am in the EXACT same situation with both of those props for our ‘19 A22/409. I just can’t warrant spending the money to get the 949. But it could be the perfect prop for us, especially with the .120 cup.

I'm curious what the situation is that you aren't getting enough out of the 2279?  In my experience on the T22, the 2279 can do everything the 2249 can and the 2249 will "get stuck" (i.e. not plane out) at the same speed as the 2279.  It's usually a function of bow weight for us.

Endless pursuit of perfection! 😜

So I’m running 550s in the back and 150 lead up front. I figured with the batteries up there bow weight should be ok? Usually run wedge on 3. I actually don’t think the RPMs are to high while using the 2249. With the 2279 and a lite crew it’s fine, but with a heavier crew not so sure. Sure I could not fill the backs as much but where’s the fun in that?! 😁 Maybe the 949 is “The One”?

The water situation around here sucks! Folsom is closed, have to travel to ride. I’m bored! 😜

Fwiw I’m running 400 in lead and never fill the rear sacks more than 400 or so.

I end up running to 4000 rpms as a “max!” Rear fill threshold, and usually more in the 3500+\- range.

can you see over the bow with 550s full?  This is from Saturday with 3 adults in the boat

Bow rise doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue. Usually around 11mph and 3300 rpms with the 2279. I actually think this A22 wave is better then my 17 23LSV! 🤷🏻‍♂️

WOW!  From the looks of that pic, you've "won the game."

you aren't gonna get those "giant wave at 3000 rpms" kinda claims like the 25 lsv guys on a little hull (IMHO/YMMV etc etc).

The other thing I was gonna say is that I'd bet that the 949 is effectively "shorter" than its acme counterparts.  I say that because I ran an OJ 945 (15x13) on my 2014 LSV, and it was effectively identical to the 2315 (15x12) that I switched it out for.  I'd betcha a dollar that the 949 and the 2249 would be basically indistinguishable.

This is a key point for me to hear. With our boat, I’m starting to find that I prefer the 2249 for surfing and the 2279 for wakeboarding and cruising. RPM’s are pretty high at wakeboarding/cruising speeds with the 2249 but I’ve noticed that the 2249 handles the loaded boat much better while surfing (2279 still good tho). And just off specs alone, the 15x15 OJ splits the difference, thus my curiosity. The only other difference in specs is the .120 cup on the OJ vs the .105 on the 2249/2279. To me, that helps counter the potential for it to be “shorter” but maybe not?
