Fuel level bounces around on 2020 LSV23

Our fuel level will start at say 25% and then as we drive it it will go up to 50% and then it will be beeping because it’s alerting low fuel level. Is this a known defect or something we need a dealer to look at?

I think what your experiencing is the float sending unit moving as the angle of the boat changes.  We always use the gauge reading when the boat is sitting/riding at a relatively flat plane.

While we have very different boats, the fuel sender in the 99 Malibu is routed thru the mdc which adds a delay which prevents the bouncing. Surely the modern boats have something like that which is not working on your boat

No reasonable delay will stop the average from reaching equilibrium when you have a boat sacked out and plowing around in circles for thirty minutes at a pop.  It sounds like everything is working correctly to me, it's just time to fill up.

It is a significant delay. My tank and yours are shallow rectangles placed across the stern, without the significant delay your gauge would ping pong wildly.

I don't disagree with you.  I'm saying that surfing and resting are different positions, and expecting a nearly empty tank to read properly at all times is expecting a lot.

I suppose they could put a whole bunch of sensors in the tank and use accelerometers to read the attitude and work out a constant solution, but I thought these boats were expensive enough.

It seems very common for the fuel level reading to increase during acceleration or when driving above wakeless speeds because the fuel is sloshing to the back of the tank where the sending unit is.

I used to joke around saying that if I could drive the boat fast enough I would never have to fill the tank again.

Easy solution… don’t trust the fuel reading unless the boat is at rest.

I'm my case, the only reading I trust is when I lift the seat back and look at the tank.

But even then I don’t see the same level if it’s on or off at rest. And it’s again very different at plane with no riders and just a couple ppl in the boat.  I don’t want more than 60-65% full because I’m in a shallow area with rocks that can quickly damage the prop when a decent wave hits as we are going in to dock.  I have a pontoon and all gauges quit working two yrs in. Doesn’t really matter cuz I can lift the prop and we just keep track from full.  This one I worry ab because I don’t know when to believe the gauge.
