I have to cycle power off to restart engine in 2016 VTX

Hey guys, 

I just purchased a 2016 VTX and on the test run it happened as well. It starts up fine at first, but every time I stop the engine and try to restart, it cranks and cranks but no start. I then have to power down and wait a few seconds and power back up, hit the start button, put in the code and start again. This usually works but by the end of the day, it didn’t work every time and I would have to go through it again. I don’t think this is normal.

On the test run it happened to the salesman and he called in to there tech who said it’s normal and to power off and back on. He said something about cycling off makes the fuel prime. I thought it was weird and now don’t believe it’s the case. We purchased it in Texas and drove it back to Alabama, so I can’t take it back in.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Well, I’m honestly not sure where to start with this problem, but I can tell you it is not normal. 
 

It also never hurts to verify batteries are good, connections are good and grounds are good. 
 

Hopefully others have better suggestions.

what are you doing when you power down?  just using the power button or are you turning the batteries off and back on using the switch?

A crank no-start can be caused by many things:  Low voltage during cranking (anything below 10.5 VDC is a problem), Low fuel pressure, high fuel pressure, leaking or clogged fuel injectors, worn ignition components, or a faulty crank position sensor.  Loose or corroded connections are the most common problem I find that causes voltage drop.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it was not normal. I contacted the dealer and they are sending me a new fuel pump, so hopefully that will do the trick!
