Purple color on seats

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else get this weird purple color on the top of their upholstery.  Does not look like mildew it goes away when you put it in sunlight and only on happens when the cover is on in warm weather.

Yep...common.  I have a black cover and if I leave it on in the hot sun for any length of time same thing.  It's been discussed on here many times.

I was thinking of the same idea but I noticed it's not a contact thing?  The cover doesn't touch the vinyl where is turns purple.  It's like an outgassing leaching thing? With heat?

Yes I get the same problem, can’t seem to stop it from happening but once the boat is out in the sun for an hour it clears right up

Thank you so interesting.  This part sounds like mine "

Chemical pinking arises from a byproduct of certain glues in marine cushions, which change to a pink or red color and then wick to the surface of the material.

It is triggered when another material such as a boat cover is left in contact with the upholstery. The vinyl is then subjected to excessive heat, and the result is chemical pinking, which appears in more geometric patterns than the blotchy nature of bacterial pinking"

But my cover doesn't touch the vinyl?  Maybe just the heat? 🤷
