50 amp Main Breaker - 2000 Escape LSV

Recommended Posts

Over the winter I put in a new sound system and upgraded the lights to LED.  Ever since doing that the main 50 amp breaker will pop when I shut the boat down. It starts and runs fine, can crank the sounds, and it's fine. Shut the boat down and it kills all power to the boat. I also did add a 3rd battery.  I am wondering if I am somehow overloading it, have a bad breaker, or something with the ignition. Has anyone had a similar issue?

50 amp breaker in the motor room or behind the observers seat? Sounds like a wiring mistake somewhere. Power for the sound system should not be, in any way, connected to engine wiring.

The amps are all run independent of the boat wiring. The head unit is tied in, but not the amps.

Yes, everything is right and tight with the sound system/batteries.   I could understand if that was the issue when I had it cranked up, but it has no affect on it. Even with the stereo is completely off, it still pops the breaker when I shut it off. And it's basically every time I shut it off.  Would you start with replacing the breaker?

Did you make any changes to the ignition switch itself?

I only ask because you seem to be getting an overload back through the engine circuit only when you turn the key.
