Vapor Separator Tank

Recommended Posts

In need of DIY advice on a 1995 Malibu Echelon with 5.7l Mercruiser.  Out of the blue it will start running rough and putting to much fuel into the Manifold.  It is coming from the vapor separator tank.  Past years I have taken it to repair shops but it is getting expensive.  It might be getting trash into the tank causing it to dump fuel into the Manifold as a posed to going through the injector lines.

Can I clean this tank myself, make sure the bladders, etc are operating correctly, or will I make it worse?

Thanks in advance,

I assume you have a throttle body injected engine.  I'm not familiar with those, but I don't see how you can go wrong by cleaning something.  I recommend getting everything clean first and then diagnosing issues if they remain.  After everything is clean, if it still misbehaves test the fuel pressure.

It is fuel injected, just something happens in there that blocks the fuel from going to the two injectors.  A bladder gets blocked, i don't know, it then just dumps out a safety line straight into the Manifold.

Fuel pressure was tested, compression test, etc.  All good.
