1st time Malibu owner… need help!

Just purchased a 2006 247 Wakesetter MLS and need help dialing it in.  We went from 21 foot Larson as the kids and I are interested in surfing and have been wakeboarding for some time.  Seems like I can’t get the speed control to lock onto a speed. Also, need recommendations on how to set the ballast for wakeboarding and surfing.   Also, with the wedge do we put that down when wakeboarding?  Again, new to this so be nice! 😁. Thanks!

Also, this boat and trailer are approximately 5000 lbs.  my 4Runner is rated for 5K lbs of towing  but feels under powered and at the launch it slides a little as I’m backing up the trailer down the ramp.  I think I need a truck or larger SUV.  95% of the time we trailer it 2 miles to the launch but there will be times we trailer it for a few hundred miles.  Will I destroy the transmission in my 4Runner?   Thoughts?

As far as surfing goes fill all your fat sacs and put the wedge down, Youll want to get a wake shaper as well. Add weight as desired, I have about 2800# in my 21 lsv and it surfs well.

As far as cruise, are you setting it correctly? You have to actively engage it and it will ask for more throttle if needed. Is it doing this?

247 is a big boat, I would suggest upgrading vehicles

Coming from a v8 4runner and towing our 4100# VLX, I felt that was under powered. I assume you have a v6? Also, as you mention it slides at the ramp... that could be a combination of things, but mainly weight. The boat outweighs the Runner. I agree, you should upgrade to something that is designed to tow a boat that size and rest easy. The good news is you'll have no problem selling your 4runner.

I’ve had to tow our A24 that is well over 6500lbs(closer to 7000) with fuel and lead with my wife’s 2016 4Runner when my truck had been in for some recall service.  It’s only 1/4 of a mile to our community ramp. The ramp is very flat(5%max). I have cringed each time trying to pull it out.
4Runner is a beast of a SUV, but not for towing.

if you can get something more suited for towing do it. Your transmission and suspension will thank you.

A 247 on a trailer is way over 5000lbs.  My 20 ft VTX is over 5000lbs on the trailer

Note that malibu published weights are in general a lie.  But in theory they are the minimum dry weight of the boat - no tower or any other accessory and no fuel.  Then you need to add 1500-2000lbs for a twin axle trailer.

keep in mind that the insurance company will be looking for any excuse not to pay any claims filed.

i'd be willing to bet that your rig far exceeds the towing spec of the 4runner and the insurance company will bank on being able to deny claims.

can you afford to lose the boat and the 4runner if that happens (not to mention any liability for injury)?

That is not how insurance works.

Find a nice used  Suburban with 4X4  you don't want to be on a slippery launch ramp and wish you had 4X4.

Plus Bigger truck = Better brakes than the "Nose dive 4runner" ( I own one) and better suspension, plus you can carry more stuff.

Congrats on the new boat.  I am not sure if you are talking about surf speeds when mentioning the cruise locking in issues? Mine is an 06 and had an issue on locking in on the lower speeds for surfing.  Dealer had to do a software upgrade /flash and all was good after that.

Definitely need a vehicle more suited for towing that size boat.

Enjoy!
