Engine temp for 1999 sunsetter VLX

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

while I was on the lake this weekend I noticed my temp gauge was hovering around 200 while surfing. I guess I never payed much attention to the gauge, but I’m pretty sure that’s too hot. When I’m at idle I want to say it was running around 160. My first thought was to change the thermostat. Any thoughts? Also anyone have a PN? I know bakes would sell it, but they have so many different ones and different gasket shapes too…any insight here would be great, I just changed the impeller so that isn’t the issue. And maybe my temp gauge is just reading bad? I’m not sure… boat has the 5.7L Indmar.

I would check the inlet side of your transmission cooler to make sure there aren't some chunks of impeller or other junk in there reducing the flow.

Here is the PN on bakes. https://www.bakesonline.com/indmar-160-degree-marine-thermostat.html
Not sure if it comes with gaskets, but it’s a common part… might be able to find the whole set elsewhere.

Yep, I too would check the transmission cooler for debris. What did the old impeller look like when you changed it?
