A volt meter will tell you whether the new alternator is working.  It will also help you find bad battery cables, poor engine grounds, and other potential problems.

Check the grounds at the engine heads.  Also remove the Cannon plug from the engine and inspect the pins for crud or damage.  I think your year uses a round plug and split male pins.  You can gently pry the pins apart with a small blade to get better contact with the sockets.  A dab of grease on each pin before you reinstall it can help avoid future oxidation troubles.
