Hole in hull on VTX

Recommended Posts

The pictures seam to show a center hole. then more damage.  The early pictures sure show the center hole!  I would call this cavitation.  I guess I am not very knowable about prop burn but think that is a heat from .  Cavitation from what I have seen is more like drill holes. They do open up more with time. But seam to start with clean holes.  I don't buy something hitting the hull. The simple fact that the start or early caught are showing  the center hole, and the older pictures show the center hole wit more damage with time.  Cavitation is my thought.

All I know is if my boat had less than an inch of clearance to the hull I'd make up a 8" x 4" x 1/8" stainless plate and put it above the prop area with some 3M 4200 and call it a day.

indeed prop burn, i've heard a lot of people adding a thin stainless plate there.  I too have this prop burn from previous owner.  It hasn't gotten any worse since my ownership.  I just added a thin layer of silicone and it has been fine for 3-4 years now.
