2005 Wakesetter 340 Monsoon engine replacement

Hey everyone the first time I took the boat out this year the freeze plug blew out so I fixed that and then when I  took the boat out today I had water and sunscreen coming out of the ventilation line that runs up next to the air filter so my mechanic friend said it was a cracked block and I’m looking at replacing the engine just wondering if there’s any good resources for that or if someone has another opinion that’s less dire or if there’s any upgrades I should do to get some more power out of the 340 monsoon oh and I am really hoping to swap out before I head to Lake Powell in a month so if anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you meant the PCV valve (and hose) going to the air filter?  Some oil residue and moisture is normal, but water is not.  If you have water in the oil, you can verify it by looking at the dipstick after running it and it won't be clear, but milky brown.

Yeah, I checked the dipstick and it has oil and water full up the stick so I’m looking at new engines for a replacement, any good suggestions out there I was thinking of upgrading to a 6.2 383 from Atlantic Marine Engines

Easiest thing would be a new or rebuilt long block. MichiganMotorz is usually a good source.  Swapping to a 383 is going to require some sort of changes to your fueling, either with different injectors or a different ecm.

How would you reprogram it @justgary

I would first check with Larry at Indmar to see if you actually need to.  For some reason I am thinking that even though the 383 has more displacement, it uses the same ECM.  I would think that the fuel mapping needs to change, so that would be done with software.  Mefiburn.com or others could do that for you.

Check out above link. I did the swap last spring. No issues other then I had the wrong crank sensor and it caused me a lot of head scratching. I have about 30 hours on the new 383 motor.

I still don't understand how that worked.  Increased displacement and nothing done to increase the fuel.

I suspect that since a 2010 has cats it has O2 sensors also, and that means it is closed loop and can block learn to compensate for the low fuel.

Edit:  But a 2005 would need to be reprogrammed I would think to get a good fuel map.

Correct statement. I monitored diacom and from what I’ve seen these engines are tuned toward the rich side.
