Steering Helm Replacement - '03 LXI - How to Remove Steering Mount Plate?

Hello Fellow MC,

Need to replace the steering helm on my '03 Malibu LXI.  DIM says their parts are correct however their instructional guide does not include the steering wheel mounting plate I have.  Steering wheel mounts directly too this flat plate using 6 allen bolts.  The steering shaft protrudes from center of this plate.  Does anyone know how to remove this plate?  Presume a gear puller is the answer however I'm looking for insight before potentially creating more damage.  Cannot find how/where to upload pics.

Thanks,

Jeff-

Yes, you should be able to remove the adapter with a wheel puller.
