Help with 2010 Malibu keyless ignition module.

Recommended Posts

We bought a 2010 Malibu Wakesetter 2010 23 LSV this past weekend.  I had a friend, who is a boat mechanic, look it over, but it was in storage, so he couldn't run it.  He said it was in pristine condition, and that he thought it was a safe buy.  The second day on the water, the keyless start button wouldn't work.  We almost called for a tow, but a very hard, deep mash worked, and it started.  After that, we went back to the dock.  It hasn't worked since!  After doing a lot of research on the part, which we thought would be simple to find,  we realized it was a terrible option, and failed for most people.  We've gone to the Malibu dealer near us, twice, and they are at a loss as to how to get a replacement part.  Has anyone converted from the keyless ignition, back to a regular key inserted ignition?  That was the option we were given, but we don't want a big hole left in the dash.  I'm so frustrated that the prior owner did not warn us that this start button was going out.  Kongsberg Automotive makes, or made, the part, but it can't be purchased anywhere.  Ironically, the Kongsberg plant is about 5 miles from our house.  We went there, and it was a computer check in, and no one at the front.  They also don't answer emails or phone calls.  This was my late husbands dream boat, and it was an impulse buy for my kids.  He died in the Line of Duty, and I wanted to make his dream a reality.  I should have done more research.  All I want to to take my kids out on the lake for some fun.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The screen (if its the touch screen) was made by Medallion.

wackijacki, I was wondering if you did find a solution to the keyless ignition issue.  I'm having the same issue with my boat.  I've called the Malibu dealer where I purchased my VLX and they've contacted Malibu directly.  The keyless ignition nor the replacement keyset are available from Malibu any longer.  A keyset and dash insert (cubbyhole with a cutout to mount the keyset) can be purchased from some Malibu dealers however.  Bakes also has the keyset but not the dash insert (in stock).  The dash insert is a 2009 part so it may require some mods to get it to fit the 2010.  I was curious if you replaced your keyless ignition module and if you had any issues mounting the keyset in the dash(?)

Are you referring to the backup key ignition that replaces/updates the panel beside the driver?  If so, this only starts your boat.  Depending on how bad the MTC screen is, you won't be able to access certain features.
