2011 Wakesetter VLX - Took on water. No Spark. No power to fuel pump.

Recommended Posts

I recently launched my Wakesetter and the Marina failed to install drain plug, or at least hang it on my steering wheel....and I failed to check look for it before putting it in the water (foolish right?)  Long story short my bilge failed before I got to my lift and I took on enough water that the engine quit.  I drained it and have been getting some advice from a few mechanics.  I seem to have power to most fuses except for the fuel pump and there is no spark.  Marina can't look at it for another 8 days.  I've got a local mechanic who is thinking ECM problem.  Anyone run into something similar out there?  Could there possibly be a relay or fuse somewhere I'm missing?

Oh, boy.

@tvano's guide is great, but in this case I would probably go directly to the Cannon plug and make sure you have good contact at each pin.

You will probably have trouble with your steering cable, starter, alternator, etc. in the nearish future.

All three of the relays are the same, so you can swap the powertrain relay ( for ignition and fuel injectors ), fuel pump relay, and starter relay to see if one of them is not working.

Like @justgary said, check the main boat to engine harness plug.  It needs to be very clean and dry.  It is a rectangular 16 pin plug near the ECM.  Disconnect it by pushing on the small plastic clip on the top, carefully remove the purple plastic pin retainer on the female side, then check the condition of the pins.  Also, check the male pins on the other side of the plug.
