Replace lake temp sensor on 2003 Sunsetter

Anyone ever replace this sensor on their Malibu? or perhaps even the cabin air temp sensor up under the dash, as they look the same.

I'm contacting my dealer to see if this part is replaceable and will order one if possible. My gauge shows the lake water temp but it's waaaaaaaaay off to high.

Here is a pic of the sensor underneath the hull.

And here is a picture of it from the engine bilge area. It looks like the wires are directly attached.

I wonder if I can use the old wires, or do I have to hook something up directly to the dash?
