Best way to operate stereo without killing the battery

wondering what is the best way to operate the stereo system when the boat is turned off so you don't kill the battery?

We do a lot of floating and enjoy the music playing with the ignition turned off, but don't want to kill the battery.

There is no way. A battery is like a mug of beer. If you keep sipping on it, it will eventually run dry, unless you put it under the tap and refill.

Best setup, dual banks. One to use while at anchor, with a cranking bank isolated in reserve to re-fire the engine.

Lithium batteries will give you about five times more capacity when at anchor.

The systems are a lot more expensive to buy and control effectively. They can take a very rapid recharge too if you can manage it.

What boat?  Stock dual battery switch?

Run on all when cruising, and make sure you are on 1 or 2 when stopped and listening. That way, you’ll only kill one battery, and be able to start with the other

stock stereo or aftermarket?
