Cracked hull after storage

I appreciate the analysis, thanks. It’s tough timing because I can’t make it to marina right away to inspect myself. I just spoke with my insurance adjuster today, he is going this week and he will try to blame marina, but said proving Negligence is very difficult, and unless marina admits to something , then it’ll have to incidental and under my insurance.

Marina has told me should be approx a 2 week repair, and once they see how much they’ll get to repair it, they’ll try to help me with a rental and my storage Bill, however they haven’t guaranteed anything yet just more of a let’s see what insurance says. They just keep insisting that they did nothing wrong. And not knowing enough about blocking and hull damage makes it difficult to ask the right questions.

This is well worth your time to just go and inspect it yourself, no matter how far or how much time you have to take off work.  Take photos of everything, including other stored boats, dunnage lying on the ground, fork lift padding, etc.  At the very least, meet the adjuster there so you can go over it with him.

I don't see this as a two week repair unless they find somebody who wants to work on it exclusively all day every day.  Most glass shops I know will do jobs in stages with other boats (prep a few, glass a few, gelcoat a few, etc), so your two weeks will stretch to quite a while.  Also, this is not a trivial repair by any stretch of the imagination.  You didn't show where on the hull the damage is, but my guess is that they will have no access from the inside and will need to cut the floor to repair the damage, then repair the floor.  They need a qualified repair shop doing the work.

They did not handle your boat properly while it was under their watch, period.  This is 100% on them to make you whole.  They owe you free repair and a free loaner boat, not a rental.  If they have any brains at all, they will also refund your storage fees for the entire season.  Any other outcome means that you get to start buying billboards in town featuring photos of your boat that they heavily damaged for you.

I am certain that your hull is not soft or rotten or anything.  They dropped your boat, or the dunnage slipped after they placed it.

For anybody reading this, take extensive photos of anything you drop off (or have picked up) for repair or storage.  It is sad that businesses can't just take ownership of their work.
