Help with Impeller and Oil change ‘11 247 LSV

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I’m brand new here looking for some advice. I’ve had my boat for a total of about 60 hours and figured it was time for an impeller and oil change. You tube is helpful but I would like to know if these tasks are easily DIY? If draining oil from the bottom tube through the hull do I have to heat up the engine first? Is the impeller easily accessible? I keep it in a dry dock and haven’t been able to get by to look. Any advise or insights would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks!

I don't warm the oil before changing, and I use the hose that does down through a t-handle plug; I open it and let it drain for a couple days.  My impeller used to be much harder to get to, but with the muffler now gone it is much simpler.  An impeller puller probably makes it much simpler and biggest issue is making sure you don't over-torque the bolts for the pump cover.

If you're even modestly handy you can do all of these.  There's lots of videos online and PLENTY of info here, so you're in the right place.  Get a friend or someone who's done it if you're worried about it, but either way I'm sure you'll do fine.

I used to warm the oil but switched to the drain overnight method based on comments here and the oil filter change is now a LOT less messy.

Thanks @oldjeep
